Our approach at Prepped Learning extends beyond the “what” (or academic) part of learning. We are devoted to teaching students the underlying foundation skills and Executive Function strategies that enable them to master the “how” part of learning.
There are four essential, interconnected parts to building confidence and competence in learners:
Cognition
Cognition includes thinking processes such as reasoning, reflecting, attaching meaning, remembering and evaluating. Actually thinking about thinking is a key part of being able to adapt learning behaviors, develop new strategies and effectively solve problems.
Perception
Perception involves receiving and processing information through kinesthetic, visual, and auditory senses. We process the world around us through these perceptions. In fact, everything that enters the brain enters through one of these sensory perceptions. The intake, evaluation, and understanding of this sensory information is the underpinning of critical thinking skills.
Emotion
Emotion deals with the feelings we associate with activities, ourselves, and our interactions with others. The social-emotional piece to learning is key in successfully acquiring new information, forming relationships, communicating, taking risks, and having the grit to work through challenge.
Academics
Academics refers to the content of learning. Competency of cognition and processing, along with social-emotional connection make the acquisition of academics more efficient and effective.
